# 788-apartment housing company launches electrical renovation – Wirmax to deliver the contract with full responsibility

The electrical systems of As Oy Satakallio's 788 apartments in Alppiharju, Helsinki, are being renewed in a major renovation. Building services group Wirmax Oy has been selected to deliver the project as a design and build (KVR) contract.

**The electrical systems of As Oy Satakallio's 788 apartments in Alppiharju, Helsinki, are being renewed in an extensive renovation. Building services group Wirmax Oy has been selected to deliver the project as a design and build (KVR) contract. According to board chair Maria Lohela, the choice was influenced by the solid experience of Wirmax's experts and their understanding of how important the flow of information during the project is for the residents of a large housing company. Measured by the number of apartments, As Oy Satakallio is reportedly the largest housing company in Finland.**

As Oy Satakallio consists of four large blocks of flats in Alppiharju, Helsinki. The residential buildings with ribbon windows, designed by architect Toivo Korhonen, were completed in the early 1960s. The housing company now has a total of 788 apartments.

The KVR contract covers the design and implementation of the site's electrical systems in their entirety. Preparations for the project are currently under way, and the implementation phase begins in August 2026. The project is expected to last until the end of 2027.

As Oy Satakallio's ten-member board used an external adviser in the tendering process – Misor-Rakenne Oy, a consultancy specialising in renovation construction – but made the final choice itself.

Its strengths also include the ability to handle shareholders' own additional and alteration works in a controlled way alongside the contract.”

Wirmax CEO **Sampo Kautto** and his team thank As Oy Satakallio for its trust and look forward to working with this unique site. “For Wirmax, this record-breaking project is extremely important because of both its scale and its reference value. Our goal is to deliver the project to a high standard, safely and according to plan, while also taking residents' everyday lives into account,” Kautto says.

Many of the large housing companies built in the second half of the 20th century are now at the stage of major technical renovations. Over 60 years old, As Oy Satakallio actively invests in keeping its buildings in good condition as needed, together with professional partners. Over the past 20 years, the housing company has carried out, among other things, a pipe renovation, a façade renovation and a courtyard deck renovation. Attic apartments have also been built in the buildings.

As Oy Satakallio's blocks of flats were built on the site of the so-called “hundred-mark villas” that once stood at the beginning of Porvoonkatu. The housing company has more homes than many small municipalities.
